world is changing so fast.
Seems like we only just learnt to love
(or hate!) ATM's and then phone banking not long after that, when along
comes a new technology to phase us all. E-commerce.
So
what is E-commerce and how safe is it? Well basically it's a means
of paying for things you want over the internet.
The Dog-E-Data team have been doing it for some time now as consumers
and finally realised a few things.
Have
you ever done these things:?

Have
you ever given your credit card to a waiter in a restaurant?.

Ever
given your card details and signature on a subscription form for say
magazines or mail order items?.

Given
your personal details over the phone when buying travel or
insurance?.
Most of us have at some time or other.
But take a moment to ponder this point. Every single instance
mentioned above in our opinion is a lot LESS SAFE than a rapid
series of digits being transmitted to the bank in milliseconds via
secure encrypted technology.
Why?
- Because we are dealing with people and 99.9% of the time they are
honest and play by the rules, but when someone gets greedy or thinks
they can get away with it, they have easy access to all your details and
in some cases a signature and that can ruin an otherwise perfectly good
day!
Like
most e-commerce enabled sites, we DO NOT store credit card
details on this or any site associated with us. The bank and its
preferred suppliers of e-commerce software put us through a rigorous
testing phase before we are allowed to e-trade.
Additionally we have to have an SSL certificate which doubly
protects you and say's we are who we say we are. (double click on a
websites padlock when you see it to ensure the 'certificate' is being
displayed by the correct owner of the site).

So buying goods and services on the internet is – in most cases –
safer, cheaper and definitely a lot easier than getting in the car,
driving to the shopping centre, finding a park, walking to the shop only
to find they don’t have what you want!.
