A NOTE FOR ALL PARENTS:
(actual Dog-E-Deed is here)
Buying or adopting a dog is not something you should do on the spur of
the moment. There are many questions that need to be answered BEFORE
you even take that next step.
Many of us
still call them 'pets' but dogs really should be thought of more as
companions or canine pals or even 'friends'.
A 'pet rock' is perhaps something you can easily discard. But a
friend...now that's another matter entirely.
If you've
already made the careful decision to include a dog as an active member
of your family, and have carefully considered the following:
What type of dog you want
& does it suit your home & lifestyle
The
on-going cost of veterinary fees each year including worming etc
Included the cost of
microchipping or council registration
Calculated how much
food you'll need to buy each week
Considered holiday
arrangements with your new dog
If you've
considered all of these points and more then you will probably be a
great companion for your new dog and go on to be one of the many ten's
of thousands of happy dog lovers Australia wide.
DO THE KID'S REALLY UNDERSTAND?
Most
adults know that living with a dog is intended to be forever. But do
your children REALLY understand what's involved?
We've
created our very own 'DOG-E-DEED'.
You should print
this deed, have your kids read it out loud BEFORE you get your
new dog (or read it to them if they're too young) and then ask
them if they are prepared to sign the deed which ideally should be
posted in their bedroom, or the family room or even on the fridge for
everyone to see every day.
If your
kids do this and you've carefully considered some of the points above,
then... and ONLY then.... should you consider your new family
addition.
