HOW
IT ALL STARTED:
In the late 1990's while working in Spain, husband
and wife television producers Brian
Pickering and Kaye Browne adopted a small cross
Portuguese Water Dog cross Poodle cross, crossed with a
whole lot of love.
They named him 'Picasso' after the famous Spanish
painter and because his colours were very flamboyant.
That's him on the right. Picasso never went anywhere
without Brian & Kaye - why would he with so much
love?
While drying off after his bath one day, Picasso
followed a group of Gypsies along a beach which had a
tunnel that went under a major highway. The highway was
divided on top by one of those cement barriers so the
tunnel was the only way back.
Two days later - after much anguish, they found
Picasso's body on the wrong side of the highway - he had
been hit by a car while trying to get back home.
"Naturally we were both devastated because we
had already started making plans to bring him home to
Australia." Brian says.
"Because he was being washed, he had no collar
or tag on - more devastating though was the fact we had
no readily available photo of him to put up around the
area to alert locals he was 'our' dog." a
tearful Kaye says."We had forgotten about the
one seen here (above) and so decided
very soon after this horrible episode, that a Photo ID
was a MUST for all dogs and so the idea for Dog-E-Data
was born."
EARLY IDENTIFICATION SAVES DOG'S LIVES
Microchipping is a very good idea (it's also law in
some states) - but who walks around with a scanner? And
who will scan your dog late Friday night - or any night
for that matter!
Of course a tag with phone numbers that can be contacted
24/7 is even better, but a PHOTO ID is a must - and
that's how Dog-E-Data started - in January 2000.
Brian
& Kaye now have four dogs - Cosmo, Kismet, Monet
& Matisse the baby Bichon... and you can see
they still haven't forgotten Picasso with some of those
Spanish sounding names and the reason they started
Dog-E-Data... "cos we love dogs" ...!!
A MESSAGE FROM BRIAN & KAYE
Please make sure your dog ALWAYS wears a collar with
a tag that has a current phone number that is always
answered. So many people say - 'oh I only put it on
when he goes out'... do you only insure your
car just before a crash, or insure your house just
before a fire??
Why not 'insure' your dog against the un-thinkable and
'ensure' that he or she has a fast, immediate way of
contacting you and that you have everything in place -
including a photo ID, in case the un-thinkable happens.
Read more about the service we
offer and remember - Our dog never went anywhere without
us either! - Take care, Brian & Kaye
