How
do I let you know when my dog goes missing ?
There
are several ways to let us know when your dog has gone missing. If you
have internet access, then the fastest and quickest is to click onto the
'Lost-Dog-E Alert', (a Member Only feature) type in your email address and your password and hit enter.
That's it! News of your Lost Dog-E automatically goes to all our members
in your postcode and to participating councils and vets in that postcode
as well and hopefully will result in a found Dog-E very quickly.
Also, don't forget to deactivate your lost alert!
If
you don't have internet access, (you may be on holiday with your dog)
you can call us on our Freecall
1800 444-364
number, give the operator your dog's name, ID number and your
identifying password so we can activate your alert. Tell us when and
where the dog was lost. We'll do the rest.
What do I do when it's found ?
When you've found your dog, you need to cancel your Lost Dog-E alert
because otherwise our members will think it's still missing and the next
time you walk your pooch you might be mistaken for a dog-napper! It's
easy to prevent such a mistake by either clicking on the appropriate
link on our website (the cancel alert page) and fill in the
identification details, tell us where and when it was found and click on 'Cancel
Alert' button. Alternatively you can phone us on our Freecall
1800 444 364 number and tell us the good news!
Do I have to pay a reward ?
No. You don't have to pay anyone else a reward of any kind. However
some members feel the offer of a reward can sometimes help, particularly
when a dog has been lost for some time, and may choose to to do so.
Dog-E-Data is not party to any such arrangements.
Do I have to pay extra to Dog-E-Data?
No, you don't have to pay extra to Dog-E-Data unless your dog has
been reported missing to us. Our Call Centre charge is $20.00 per
recovered dog. If a person calls us to say they have found your dog, we
will call you and give you the finders contact numbers. After you have
confirmed you have your dog safely back with you, we will invoice you
the $20.00 Call Centre fee.
A
recent survey of our members indicated they would be more than happy to
pay this as they would finally have their dog back safe & sound.
I don't want to register my dog with the council...can they find out
after I've joined Dog-E-Data ?
No, however we strongly recommend all dog owners register their pet with
their local council, not only because it's the law, but because it's
another form of identification for your dog. However our privacy
policies mean that your details remain private, including whether or not
your pet is registered.
I refuse to get a microchip, will this stop my dog being found?
Microchipping of animals is now law in New South Wales for all new
pets and includes a requirement for remaining older pets to be chipped
by 2002.
Dog-E-Data's unique photo identification and tag system operates
separately from microchip technology and therefore whether or not your
dog is microchipped will not affect Dog-E-Data's search for any missing
animal.
Think of the microchip in a dog being like those electronic emergency
beacons ocean sailors use, but they still wouldn't be without their
lifejacket.
The
Dog-E-Data ID Tag is like a lifejacket. Both are aimed at reuniting you
and your dog.
How can you guarantee you'll even find my dog?
We can't guarantee we can find every dog...but as we mentioned above
Dog-E-Data membership is a bit like a life-jacket...it increases the
chance of your dog being found dramatically. We've saved many hundreds
of dogs and would be happy to put you in touch with some of our many
success stories.
I don't trust the internet - how do I know my personal details are
safe in your database?
The safety of information transfer on the internet has increased to the
point where banks now say that the scrambling technology makes your
personal data harder to access and even safer than numbers being
transmitted down a telephone line. Apart from utilising the latest
technology, Dog-E-Data has team members who are equally as interested in
maintaining the privacy of individuals as you are!
My dogs keep chewing the ID tags - how can I fix this?
Dogs enjoy making their human companions happy. When you train your
dog to tell the difference between toys it is allowed to chew, and
things it is not allowed to chew, such as a Dog-E-Data tag, then you
will be making life for your dog and yourself much more enjoyable.
